Program Description
EPSDT stands for Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment. It is also called "Care for Kids Program". The Public Health nurse or interpreter calls and coordinates care with parents of children who are already on Medicaid and are due for well-child check-ups based on age and those who are newly on Medicaid. The nurse/interpreter may inform the parent of the benefits of Title XIX and if needed, find a doctor or dentist for the child and make appointments for them. They also may
help with WIC appointments and assist if they have transportation problems getting to the doctor.  EPSDT covers medical, dental, nutrition, vision and hearing tests, immunizations and lab testing. The program's emphasis is on preventative health care and the importance of providing children with access to early and regularly scheduled well-child examinations.
