| Flu Clinic |
Crawford County Home Health, Hospice & Public Health provides Flu Vaccine to the employees of Crawford County and the public, as approved by the Crawford County Board of Health. The purpose for administering the vaccine is to reduce the potential for influenza among the Crawford County employees and individuals related to the high incidence of respiratory illness. There was a shortage of the flu vaccine in the 2004-2005 flu season due to one of the manufacturers having a problem with the sterility process of the product. CCHHH&PH had ordered from this same manufacturer but was able to purchase vaccine from other Public Health offices who had received vaccine from another manufacturer. The agency also received some vaccine through the Iowa Department of Public Health. All vaccine received was allocated for the high priority group first, therefore many people who normally received a flu shot did not this last year. Very few clinics were held at the usual sites. From the agency supply of vaccine, the nursing home residents and employees not covered by their local physician were provided with the vaccine. Agency clients and staff who met the high priority criteria were vaccinated. Residents of senior citizen housing were also offered the flu vaccine. There were clinics held at the agency and community room for the high priority population. A total of 992 flu shots were given in 2004-2005 in comparison to 1382 in 2003- 2004. |
