| Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection |
The Care For Yourself/Iowa Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (IBCCEDP) is a joint effort of the Iowa Department of Public Health and local public health agencies and is funded by a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cass County is the lead agency for the project with Crawford, Adair, Monona, Montgomery, and Shelby as the other participating counties. The mission of this program is to reduce the number of deaths from breast and cervical cancer through coalition building, education, and early detection. The program offers, at no cost to eligible women between 50 and 64 years of age, the following: clinical breast exams, self breast exam education, pelvic exams, pap smears, mammograms, as well as other screenings, diagnostic testing, and follow-up. Referrals are usually made from the doctor's office or Family Planning nurses. Providers are reimbursed at current Medicare rates.
