This screening program assists local schools, preschools, and families in the identification of head lice. A nurse will go to local schools, which do not have a nurse on staff, and to preschools if needed to complete head lice checks. Occasional head lice checks are completed in the home or office as well. When a case has been confirmed, the individual and/or family receive extensive teaching about how head lice was obtained, what to look for, treatment of, and decontamination of personal articles.
