| Immunization |
The Immunization Program provides vaccinations for children from birth through 18 years. All the vaccine is supplied through a federal program, Vaccines For Children (VFC). Only children who meet the following criteria are eligible to receive the vaccine: Medicaid recipient, Uninsured, Underinsured with either a high deductible or health insurance that does not cover immunizations, or Native Americans. Children not meeting these criteria are referred back to their family physician. Three clinics are held per month with two clinics being four and a half hours and one clinic being four hours. Two clinics are held in the afternoon and one is in the morning to cover different times of the day. Walk-in immunizations are provided to transfer students per school request. The IRIS statewide computer program is being used, which will eventually be able to maintain the complete immunization record of every child in Iowa. The Tetanus-Diphtheria (TD) Immunization is offered to anyone over age 7 that requires it. The TD Immunization is offered to adults at the fair, to local firemen, to county employees and at the office for any walk-in requests. The agency offers TD and MMR Immunizations through the Naturalization Immunization Program for those applying for citizenship to the United States.
