| Bereavement Program |
The Hospice team attempts to be present at time of death to offer support and reassurance to the family. The Volunteer Hospice Board purchases a rose and card for the client and family. The Hospice team members involved with the client attempts to attend the visitation and/or funeral of the client. Phone contact is made with the family to identify problems or concerns. Families who want bereavement support are placed on a mailing list and receive the monthly Journeys newsletter from the Hospice Foundation of America. The newsletter contains excellent articles related to grief and the grieving process. Follow up phone calls are made to families to assess how they are doing. The Hospice social worker or counselor is available if families need additional support or one-on-one visits. Father Glenn Rankin, the Hospice Chaplain, provides follow up visits as needed for spiritual support. Father Rankin and the Hospice team provide a memorial service for families that is usually held in November. A "Coping with the Holidays" Program is provided for families and the community. The Grief Education Series was offered once in the fall and once in the spring. Hospice has a lending library with resources, videos, and information for anyone interested. The program currently has 110 people receiving bereavement support.
